Anek Lines El Venizelos - Further Ferry Information and Vessel Description

El Venizelos is a passenger Ferry in service with the ferry company Anek Lines. As well as sailing for Anek El Venizelos is often chartered out to Tunisia Ferries during the summer months. El Venizelos was originally ordered by Stena Line as the third of a four-ship order for their Scandinavian operations in 1980 but following a number of delays at the shipyard the third and fourth vessels were cancelled prior to completion.

The first and second vessels of the Stena order that are simular in design to El Venizelos, were eventually completed as Stena Germanica and Stena Scandinavica and have spent their careers relatively uneventfully on the Gothenburg-Kiel route for Stena Line.

After Stena cancelled the order for the last 2 vessels the uncompleted hulls were disposed of by the shipyard for completion elsewere. Ship no. 3 went to Fred. Olsen and was briefly named Bonanza before again being sold, this time to to ANEK Lines.

Anek completed El Venizelos naming her after a well known Cretan politician. El Venizelos originally worked on the prime Cretan route into Heraklion, but latterly seen service in the Adriatic, in 2003 being employed on the long route from Patras to Trieste.

From 2004, during the summer the El Venizelos is chartered to Tunisia Ferries until October when she returns to Anek. The Tunisian charter has been repeated each year since. Anek Line's El Venizelos 12 decks. In can transport up to 2,500 passengers and 1,100 vehicles.
