Gedser Port Ferry Overview
Gedser is a town at the southern tip of the Danish island of Falster in Guldborgsund Municipality, Region Sjælland, and the southernmost town in Denmark. Situated in the southernmost point of Denmark, it is a port town of Falster island on the Baltic Sea. The European route E55 (Helsingborg-Kalamata) passes through the center of the village.
Due to Gedser's location towards the South of the Country a number of ferry services, past and present have operated between Gedser and ports in Germany.
Currently there is one car ferry route from Gedser to Rostock, Germany and is the most direct route between Copenhagen and Berlin. This route has been operating since 1995 and is servied by ferry operator, Scandlines. Formerly, there were also train and car ferry lines to Großenbrode (1951 - 1963) and Warnemünde (1903 - 1995) and a car ferry line to Travemünde (1963 -1990), all in Germany. |
