Larvik Port Ferry Overview
Larvik is a city and municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The city of Larvik was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. The city of Stavern and the rural municipalities of Brunlanes, Hedrum, and Tjølling were merged into the municipality of Larvik on 1 January 1988. Larvik has a daily ferry connection to the town of Hirtshals in Denmark.
Located at the south-east coast of Norway, only 130 kms from Oslo, the Port of Larvik is an important junction between road and sea transport. A new ferry terminal has recently been completed at the port by operator of the only passenger route from the port, Color Line.
The Larvik-Frederikshavn Ferry Company was founded in the 1930’s, while the ferry connection itself was established in 1937 with “Peter Wessel”. The company changed its name to Larvik Line in 1986, and was then acquired by the Color Line Group in 1996. In 2006 the port of call in Denmark was changed from Frederikshavn to Hirtshals. |
