Newcastle Port Ferry Overview
Newcastle International ferry port is located eight miles away from Newcastle city centre and can be found on the north bank of Newcastle's River Tyne in England. As many as 750,000 passengers pass through the ferry terminal each year and ferries depart for destinations Holland on a daily basis from Royal Quay Docks.
Newcastle has access to an international Ferry Terminal. DFDS Seaways' cruise ferries sail from the Newcastle International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays which offers services to Amsterdam. The service to Gothenburg operated by Danish DFDS Seaways, ceased crossing at the end of October 2006. The company cited high fuel prices and new competition from low-cost air services as the cause.
Newcastle is a city and metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, in North East England. Situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, the city developed from a Roman settlement called Pons Aelius. In the past the port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the river, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. |
