Ostend Port Ferry Overview
Ostend is a Belgian city and municipality located in the Flemish province of West Flanders. It comprises the boroughs of Mariakerke, Stene and Zandvoorde, and the city of Ostend, the largest city on the Belgian coast. Transeuropa are the only passenger ferry service operating directly from Belgium to the South of England and is the only operator using the port of Ostend. 6 ships operate on the route to Ramsgate, crossing up to 20 times per day. Passengers are carried on up to 8 sailings per day with a crossing time of 8 hours.
During the summer months the town is popular with its native Belgians due largely to its beach resorts and opportunities for surfing and sailing and of course the warm climate. The charming old town and fishing port are also popular. The city also offers a number of interesting museums such as The Museum of Fine Arts featuring the work of famous Belgian painter James Ensor or visit the North Sea Aquarium to keep the kids happy. For those interested in the maritime past of Belgium visit the three mast ship Mercator, open to the public in the area of the inner harbour. |

By Car - The A10/E40 offers a direct route to Ostend. The ferry port is well signposted once you enter Ostend.
The port provides easy access to the city, thanks to the wide range of public transport options available. The Port of Ostend has good road connections to the rest of Europe. When leaving the port, get on to the A10/E40 freeway which offers a fast route to France and Germany.
By Train - The railway station close to car ferry terminal has a high-speed Thalys train connection with France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. |
