Douglas Port Ferry Overview
Douglas is the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. It is located at the mouth of the River Douglas, and a sweeping bay of two miles. The River Douglas forms part of the town's harbour and main commercial port. Douglas is situated on the east of the island near the confluence point of two rivers, the Dhoo and the Glass. At Douglas, the rivers flow through the quay and into Douglas Bay. The town is surrounded by several other smaller towns and villages, most notably Onchan to the north and Union Mills to the west.
Douglas is the main port of the Isle of Man with the most extensive facilities for both commercial and private vessels. Douglas is the only port with dedicated passenger handling facilities and roll-on roll-off vehicle services. Douglas is served by frequent ferries to and from England and Ireland. All ferries are operated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.
One of the most famous Motorcycle races in the world takes place annually on the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man TT, which began in 1907 and takes place in late May and early June. It is now an international road racing event for motorbikes and used to be part of the World Championship.
