Liverpool Port Ferry Overview

There are two separate terminals located on the Liverpool side of the Mersey. This page contains information on the P&O terminal for travel to/from Ireland and the Steampacket terminal for trips to the Isle of Man.

The vast Port of Liverpool, owned by Peel Holdings, is one of the UK's major Ports & covers both banks of the River Mersey, both in Liverpool & Birkenhead. The Port handles over 30 million tonnes of freight a year, including one third of all freight moving between the UK & Ireland.

Liverpool's Big Dig is under way. It is one of Europe's biggest regeneration programmes, creating 14,000 new jobs and investing £3billion in the city's redevelopment. It brings together all the major regeneration projects taking place throughout the city. Major projects included in the Big Dig are the Paradise Project, the Kings Waterfront Scheme, the Cruise liner Facility, CCMS, the Pier Head canal development, office developments in the commercial district, Merseytram and the Lime Street Gateway. These and other schemes will create 14,000 jobs over the next five years.

Liverpool Port Directions

P&O Terminal - From the M58/M57 interchange follow the signs for the Docks/Seaforth along the A5036 for about 3 miles. At the 1st roundabout take the 3rd exit & then the 2nd exit on the next roundabout underneath the flyover. Then take the left fork into Seaforth Terminal - Liverpool Freeport Entrance & follow the signs to the Ferry Terminal.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Terminal - From the M62 follow the signs to the Ferries along the A5080 & then the A5047 for 5 miles.
The Terminal is located off Princes Parade.

By Train - The nearest rail stations for both terminals are the Liverpool City Centre stations including Liverpool Lime Street, Moorfields, Central and James Street. All of which are a short taxi ride from either terminal.

Parking at Liverpool Ferry Port.

For passengers traveling with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company a new 24 hour car park has been opened at Liver Street and is operated by Q Park. Contact 0151 707 3608 for further information on this service.

For passengers travelling with P&O there is a choice of nearby local parking offering both short and long term parking. Call 0151 707 2455 for long term parking information or 0151 709 7014 for short term.

Liverpool Ferry Port Facilities

Isle of Man Steam Packet Terminal - A coffee bar serving light snacks and hot and cold beverages is available in the passenger terminal. Toilets and wash room facilities are available. There is a Texaco Petrol Station open 24 hours a day in Edge Lane just under two miles from the terminal location.

P&O Terminal - The Passenger Ferry Terminals offer various facilities including a snack bar and vending machines as well as wash room facilities. There is another Texaco Petrol Station located at Derby Road in Bootle less than a mile away from the ferry terminal
