GLD Lines is a joint venture from two large european ferry companies, Grimaldi Group and Louis Dreyfus Armateurs. GLD Lines operate a route connecting Italy and France. It's regular service for both passengers and freight operates between the ports of Brégaillon, Toulon and Civitavecchia, Rome.

SeaFrance is a French ferry company that runs ships between Calais, France and Dover, UK. SeaFrance is the trading name of SNAT (Société Nouvelle d'Armement Transmanche) which is owned by SNCF. The company employs a total of 1,700 staff, including 1,200 seagoing personnel and is the largest employer in the town of Calais.

Speed Ferries is a ferry service between Dover in the UK and Bolougne-sur-Mer in France. The service commenced in May 2004 and is operated by a single ex-Australian navy catamaran. Their pricing structure is based around the concept of providing cheap travel for those travellers that book early with the price increasing the closer to the travel date.

Transmanche Ferries were formed after the previous operator of the Newhaven to Dieppe route, P&O Stena, decided to concentrate on their primary route of Dover to Calais. The last P&O Stena ferry left on the route, the Stena Cambria, undertook her last sailing on the 31st January 1998. No ferry was to provide another service on that route until the re-opening of a high speed passenger service by Hoverspeed using SuperSeaCat Two in April 1999. Compiled of 5 public bodies, including the towns of Dieppe and Fécamp as well as three Chambers of Commerce, Transmanche Ferries re-opened the route early in 2001 with the chartered Sardinia Vera.
